Japan’s Aokigahara Forest Officially Renamed “Logan Paul Memorial Cemetery”
Long a site synonymous with fleeting mortality, fragile mental health, and the enduring strength of cypress branches, the Aokigahara forest near the base of Mount Fuji in Japan has recently announced plans for a massive rebranding campaign. Tired of the foreboding and morbid imagery commonly linked to its history as a frequent destination for area suicides, local park official recently announced a campaign to imbue the gorgeous stretch of placid wilderness with a more youthful energetic vibe.
So starting in March of 2019, Aokigahara will officially go by the name “Logan Paul Memorial Cemetery” in an attempt to both respect the region’s history of tragedy while also aligning itself with the carefree antics of the eponymous internet celebrity most commonly associated with YouTube, Vine, and an overwhelming sense of generational disgust palpable around the world. Officials claim the decision was an easy one, and that when tasked with giving the region a PR facelift, Paul’s face easily scored the highest in liftability.
When asked for comment, Paul’s team responded that the name was a “supremely lit” honor that gave their client what he described as a “gratitude chub”. “Awareness is of course paramount for a site like Aokigahara,” Paul’s representatives said, “And we can’t think of a more appropriate location to bring said awareness to Logan and his generation-defining YOLO lifestyle. Don’t forget to check into his page next week when Logan ‘accidentally’ shatters a set of dinner plates on the ground at the Holocaust museum while wearing neon tank top you can buy on our merch page!”
When asked about the “memorial” portion of the new moniker not cohering with Paul’s current state of existence, the Japanese park officials responded that optimism has always been an important part of traditional Japanese culture, and that they hope the name of the park will become temporally appropriate in the near future.
