Visit Venice, The Venice of Italy

Canal cities, or as they are known in the travel world, Venices, are one of life’s great pleasures. We’ve all enjoyed tranquil aquatic thoroughfares in the Venices of the North (Amsterdam and Bruges), and we’ve plunged into chaotic exoticism in the Venices of the East (Suzhou and Bangkok). But there’s a new Venice in town that might outdo them all. I’m talking, of course, about Venice: The Venice of Italy.

Imagine the intricate waterways of Amsterdam combined with the stunningly preserved architecture of Zhujiajiao, all with the charming name of Venice Beach in LA, and you’ll have an idea of what to expect in the this Northern Italian gem.

It’s no Venice of the “somewhere else”, but in a pinch Venice will do just fine!

If you’ve been to enough Venices in your day, Italy’s version might feel a bit derivative, but sipping a sweet Belini on a beautiful campo will be all it takes to make you forget all about the city’s relative lack of originality. A “campo”, by the way, is what Venetians call “piazzas”, often described as the “Squares of the Mediterranean”, while a “Belini” is of course Venice’s version of a mimosa, a drink which is also known as the “Bloody Mary of the Citrus Family”.

Everyone loves a good Venice, but there’s no need stick to what’s tried and true. Branch out and visit the Venice of Italy (Venice), and you might just find you have a new favorite. “Favorite” of course being the “‘favourite’ of the United States”, a country which is the “‘America’ of Everywhere Else”.
